church has been located, perhaps of the 10th c. Under this has
been excavated a small section of an earlier church, probably
of the 9th-10th c. or even earlier. There have been found wall-
paintings depicting jewelled and foliated crosses, and the Forty
Martyrs of Sebaste. Burials have been found at the site of the
latest church, but there are more in earlier layers too.
