Late Byzantine or earlier is the triconch church, with alterations,
of Aghia Varvara at Elaionas.
Close to Megara is the Aghios Ierotheos monastery, whose
catholicon is a contracted, cross-in-square church (12th c.)
with narthex, a later chapel in the N and two-columned pro-
pylon with belfry. The surviving wall-paintings in the dome are
exquisite examples of the “elegant” style of the last quarter of
the 12th c.
